Dennis Crouch at Patentlyo reports on the first filings with the Patent Trial and Appeal Board since it became operational:
Ten inter partes reviews were filed and three post grant reviews were filed.
The most surprising part of his blog post:
“Interestingly, four of the requests were filed by the non-practising entity Intellectual Ventures against patents owned by Xilinix. U.S. Patent Nos. 7,566,960, 7994609, 8,058,897, and 8,062,968.”
Who foresaw Patent Trolls, er, NPE’s, er, Patent Assertion Entities filing inter partes reviews? Has the AIA given another unanticipated weapon to IV in its pursuit of “Global Good”?
